Cant send email localaly

Fist off, Thanks for any help you may give.
I am running RH8 with Qpopper and Qmail for PoP3/SMTP and using Pine for email. All are installed and running fine (I think!). Im trying to do this all via command line remotly.

I try to send email to another local user via Pine. When I do I get an error
[Error sending: connection Failed to myserver.mydomain.net 25: Connection refused]

Email has been the bane of my exsistance since I waisted all of it trying to get sendmail to work.

Some general info.
I am behind a firewall and a router.

Im not familiar with the DNS settings or Xinetd because the owner of the server set them up.

My total Unix experience is about 1 year.
