You could try going
here and downloading and re-installing openoffice, make sure that you completely uninstall the version that came with your pc first. Those may be rpm packages, but you need to follow the installation instructions in order for it to work properly. That's what I did cause' mine came with version 1.something and I wanted to upgrade, so this is what I did and it works perfect. Anyway, this "should" fix any problem that may be in the config files. Kind of like how when our university laptops get ghosted you have to re-install java cause' it doesn't work right.
