cannot modified files in etc folder.....


i want to modified file dovecot.conf file in etc folder, but it cannot save change. also cannot modified it permission level.
tell me how to modified it.

To modify a file you have to have permissions to it. Most files in /etc require you to be the root user to modify them. On some systems doing "su -" and inputting root's password will switch you to root. On some you might need to do "sudo su -" and input YOUR password instead of root's.'

If you don't have root access then you'll have to contact whoever the system administrator of the box is.
