I bet it can. But that article doesn't say Gaim and Jabber are out of the race, can't they just send out a new protocol?
Oh, and that's a pretty assholish thing for MS to do.

i would have said that the new msn's are too heavily tied into the operating system to run under wine but it might be worth a shot. the gaim people reckon it'll be ok though, also, im sure that the trillian people will have it running very soon and i'll bet that'd run under wine no problem.
<edit> can you please stop posting the same threads everywhere, its very annoying to answer a question in one forum and then find an almost similar question in a new forum. it makes keeping track of the answers almost impossible.

At the moment the latest versions of MSN Messenger probably do not run under Wine. However, if the worst happens and Linux-native clients are blocked then we will be turning our attentions towards making it work correctly.
