Can I find equivalent programs in linux....

I'm trying out the idea of ridding myself of Windows but only three programs keep me from doing that.
1) iTunes
2) Total Recorder
3) Thunderbird
I really like the setup I have with listening to streaming
music with iTunes and at the same time recording that music with Total Recorder...they work hand-n-hand but are two separate programs.

If I have one then I have to have the other. When I'm in the Windoze enviroment I can backup my Thunderbird program/profiles with a program called MozBackup(sp?)
...I have several accounts within TB on the windows side but how can I transfer that to SuSE10 Linux?

So my obivous two questions are...1) is there a equivalent to iTunes and Total Recorder in the linux world and 2) how would I transfer my TB email/all the folders to SuSE10 TB?

found this link, may be what you want here

i record stuff to my hard drive with an awesome program called audacity.
there are many many others in linux for this.

thunderbird is available in linux, just make a backup of your profile folder and put it in your /home directory when you switch.

hope this helps...

the link you provided and audacity do they have "live streaming music"?...or...are they just for previewing music and purchasing? I'm looking for a program that has the option to listen to live streams (ie...Jazz, Rock...) and then a "store" to purchase tunes. Also, can these programs
record the live streams?

TB issue: so your saying copy the windows profile over to
my home dir? (ie---.thunderbird dir/profile_name) and that
will transfer all 3 of my accounts? Sounds easy.

Thunderbird and FireFox both copy over perfectly from same version to same version. Just don't copy from 1.0.6 to 1.5.1 because the theme won't exist and you will have issues.

Audacity is for editting music, not for previewing and buying. As for previewing and buying, couldn't tell you. You may have to run itunes or something else through wine, but I would guess something out there will do it.

Not absolutely sure, but might there be an iTunes version made for Linux? I thought there was a Quick Time I saw on Linux. If there is a Quick Time, then it follows there should be an iTunes somewhere for download.

Cool

QuickTime is used with Macintosh. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QuickTime_Player...shows some details. Linux has software that plays mpeg's,...the required codec's need to be installed and tweaked appropriately. See here...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XMMS2...and also...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XMMS...and also...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plugin...good luck to YOU.
