Unhappy Can't recieve mail!!!

I am running a Fedora Core 3 server, and I just CANNOT recive mail using mail clients such as Outlook. I have tried using both POP3 and IMAP. I did not like the dovecot IMAP server that came with Fedora so I changed it to an upgraded version of the IMAP server that came with Redhat 9(have it working perfectly) on my other server, imap-2002d-3.i386.rpm.

Anyway, whenver I try to access the IMAP server using Outlook Express, I get the error:
The connection to the server has failed.

POP3:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'christopherweb.net (1)', Server: 'christopherweb.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

When I use Evolution with "localhost" in the server field I get the error, "Connection refused" with both protocols. Sendmail is working because I am able to send messages fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

You sure those pop or imap daemons are running? You have firewall in place?

I am sure the daemons are running. I enabled them all in the xinetd.d folder, and no I do not have a firewall in place. I disabled it in the installation.

Did you restart xinetd when you made the changes? If you did and still encounter errors then most likely your imap file is incorrect.

I AM JUST NOT HAVING ANY LUCK WITH FEDORA CORE 3. I have tried Qpopper, Dovecot(default on Fedora 3), Courier (wasn't able to install), and cyrus-imap. I do not know what the problem is, because I have configured 2 Linux servers and have never had problems like this. I must be doing something wrong.

Any help would be appreciated.

Question E-Mail

For some reason, I have lost my e-mail capability to send/receive and can not access e-mail from desktop. I can get to my ISP thru the net and sign in; but can not figure what happened that I can not connect via e-mail. Anyone have a suggestion? I do not know how to turn off a firewall, so if that is a sugestion, please advise how to do same.

If you are using imap, my problem was that VPN was running on the imap port.
