Can't play CDs with gxine, error: Autoplay for input plugin 'CD' failed

Hi all, I could do with some help here. I've just installed Slackware 10.2 from scratch (kernel 2.4.31, the default) and I find I can't play CDs, as I get the aforementioned error with gxine. Actually, there's another bit of the error message, which says "Check the engine output for further details". I'm not sure where to look for that :/. If I run gxine in a terminal and try to play a CD, I get the same error in a window but none in the terminal. The audio CD device is set to /dev/cdrom in gxine (and it's a symlink to /dev/hdc). With normal Xine, I press the CD button on the GUI and nothing happens :/.

My user account is part of the cdrom group as well.

I did do a search, but there didn't seem to be anyone with the same error :/.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance .

Fixed. The device itself wasn't part of the cdrom group :/. I changed the group with:

# chgrp cdrom /dev/hdc
# chmod g+r /dev/hdc
