Can't get packages marked in software/package manager

I want to install GNOME, because of the the gaim proggie, and Glib etc etc. I'm in package manager, but I can't seem to figure out how to "mark" the packages for Gnome to upgrade it like that. Please help, thanks.

depends where your source packages are. if it's the installation cds, then mount the cdrom and then go to the cdrom directory by clicking the relevant directories in the package manager and search for the packages there. if it's a downloaded package, then go to the directory where you downloaded the package to. just mark it and then click on install.
