Unhappy can't access USB devices, kernel 2.6.19

Hi,

since the installation of Knoppix 5.1.1 with kernel 2.6.19 I've lots of trouble accessing the whole USB devices like mem-stick or digital camera.

When I boot from live-DVD, I can access the USB memory stick, usbview shows me all connected devices. I've installed this live-DVD on HD, but now usbview shows nothing. The directory /proc/bus/usb is empty. If I connect the mem-stick, the kernel recognise this (dmesg output). If I compare both booting procedures, I found out the following:

loaded drivers/modules

Live DVD | HD bootup
---------------------+----------
ehci_hcd | ehci_hcd
uhci_hcd | uhci_hcd
ohci_hcd | ohci_hcd
usbcore | usbcore
usb_storage | usb_storage
udevd --system | none
dbus-system --daemon | none
hald | none
hald-..... | none

If I manually start udevd, dbus-system and hald it seems that both booting procedures are equal but usbview or lsusb shows nothing, because /proc/bus/usb is still empty. But when I manually mount the USB-entry from /etc/fstab, then /proc/bus/usb contains several subdirs and one file. The command to mount the USB is this one:

$> mount none /proc/bus/usb -t usbfs -o noauto

The equal entry in /etc/fstab is

none /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto 0 0

what have I to do to get the whole USB running after boot-up?
Which driver is necessary to use the digi cam (marked as a red entry in usbview -> no driver boud to that device)?

It would appear you have no udev rules to handle usb. Since the usb drivers are present, you can probably mount (say) a memory stick manually. However, I would suggest a reinstall since there are so many interlocking systems that could be affected.
