c compiler
hi i am just trying to install xmms on a default instalation of suse 9.1 however this is the second time this hase happend wile compiling software on suse i get an error message saying
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
to me it it is obviose that i need a c compiler. usually i have had one in my instalations exept red hat which was the first time i used linux so i didnt know better. i have never had the problem with slackware! how would i go about installing a C compiler on suse 9.1

As far as I know, SUSE does not come eith gcc installed or on the Distro CDs.
You need to get the actual compiler, not just the pre-processor (I think). You need to download an rpm for gcc.
The C++ compiler is called g++, so you may need to download that as well
I have a similar problem, adn I attempted using that download link, and it tells me I already have that installed as well. I think I managed to get a package from rpm pbone or something. But when i run ./configure now it tells me "configure cannot create executables."
