Building a stand-alone mimencode

I need to use mimencode on a machine that neither has it nor a compiler. My mimencode uses libmetamail, which the target machine also lacks. I want a source that I can build stand-alone or an alternative. The target machine is a RedHat.

The reason mimencode relies on libmetamail is because it was merged with the net-mail or metamail package. Either build a static version using -static build flags, or create a static version using statifier, or find a standalone version of mmencode, or use mpack, or use 'mutt -a file0 -a file1 -s subject ad@dre.ss < /dev/null' or else resort to something like 'openssl base64 -e < INFILE > OUTFILE'?

Thanks. openssl is on the target machine. I forgot about this feature. The other stuff was not there and metamail didn't seem easily amenable to building statically: it doesn't use configure - and, for some reason, it wouldn't build at all on the clone machine I use to build for the target machine.
