battery power monitor for laptop

i use debian with the 2.6.8 kernel running KDE (3.3 or 3.4 can not remember and do not know how to find out) on my Panasonic laptop. it is a CF-48x if that matters or helps. Under windows there is a basic desktop setting to manage the power and place a battery icon in the system tray so you know when it is time to recharge your battery.

is there something like that in KDE and were would i look, or do i need to install something via apt-get?

Thank you.

KDE has a battery monitor. Make sure kdeutils3-laptop is installed, and make sure
/opt/kde/share/services/kded/klaptopdaemon.desktop
has the line
X-KDE-Kded-autoload=true
in it.

edit: /opt/kde is the directory on my system--you might have kde installed elsewhere.

I think debian stores the relevant file at
/usr/share/services/kded/klaptopdaemon.desktop

If it's not there, try opening a terminal window and issuing the command
Code:
cd $KDEDIR/share/services/kded/
A little more information is availabe at the kdelaptopdaemon package page.
