Backwards MPlayer install

I downloaded and compiled both mplayer and the plugin and then downloaded the extralite package. Do I have to recompile, or is there a place I can cp the extralite codecs and a conf file to edit?

AFAIK you will need to re-compile mplayer to use these codecs.

Yes you have to recompile but first put the codecs in /usr/lib/win32.
