apt-get install then my system goes nuts and breaks!

Okay, three times now I've done a Libranet install, all goes well, installs fine. Then I go to apt-get for thunderbird and things go to hell in a handbasket! After 15 minutes of downloading crap it asked me a yes or no question say it had to stop some programs, then install them and did I want to let some program deal with this. Also mentions having to restart stuff by hand? Anyway, I say yes, then reboot and the system is shot, it boots to a green flickering Libranet screen.

Many times it tells me there's a dependancy issue so I don't know what the deal is but I want this OS so please help! Is there a apt-get that will upgrade the system? What's going on?

"apt-get upgrade" will upgrade all the packages on the system. If you're having dependency problems you might want to try "apt-get -f install" it will try to fix them.
