Apt-cacher offline mode problem

Alright, so I've set apt-cacher up and everything seems to work more or less - the client can access it. However, when I try to use it in offline mode, with neither client or apt-cacher server connected to the internet, the client (apt-get update) fails to update, spewing 503 (service unavailable) and apt-cacher offline errors.

But that's exactly what I want the client to do - update itself via the apt-cacher's repository that's already on the HD, rather than trying to access the internet repositories.

I've already enabled apt-cacher's offline mode in the conf.

Any ideas?

P.S. In case it makes a difference, I'm using Mint Linux.
