I have a new RH4EL4 machine, and I've loaded and configured apache on it. httpd is running (5 instances) but I'm unable to connect to the server with a browser; says No connection.
httpd.conf has : ServerName wazoo.thissite.com:80 and I am able to ssh to the machine, just no web connection.
Any ideas why I am unable to attach to httpd?
Thx! (newbie on apache..)
Don't know how to do that.. don't know if the firewall is running on the server. (don't see firewall in ps -ef) The error I get is Unable to connect. Sorry to be a newbie to linux; but how does one "open" the ports? Thx!!
That's a function of the software and/or hardware that is being used to prevent unwanted access. If you're not the administrator (for example, if you are using a hosting company), you will need to contact them to determine what you need to do to enable remote web access.
Yes, I'm the admin on this box, loaded it a couple of weeks ago. The PC I'm using to ssh into the server with is on the same network. /etc/services shows ports 80 and 443 being assigned ok, and "service httpd start" and reload work ok. Maybe the "Unable to Connect" is a clue towards the RH firewall. The httpd.conf file "looks" ok compared to one that's running. Thx..
