Question Unable to Connect

I am unable to connect through my comcast internet service with my current setup. I am a newbie to linux, and am stumpped on this one. My NIC is statused OK and I am using driver: 3c59x. I do not need any specific host names or anything, since comcast is using modem serial numbers to authenticate accounts. I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand with this one.

Is it a new install of comcast or did you use it before?

If it's already installed then you must use the same nic to connect, they check the mac address for verification.

Or else tell them you changed your hardware and need to enable the connection for it.

other than that you should be able to run dhcpcd and that should connect you.

Sorry guys.

It is a Motorola Surfboard SB4100 cable Modem.

david, I never had to give any information. I can connect through my linksys router, but I was trying to get the mandrake system configured to connect and was trying to learn a little bit about linux before I hook it up to the network. I can also connect with any of the other 5 machines that I hook up to the connection, with or without the router.

thanks...

hope this helps.

Ok

My isp is comcast here but if I try a different nic it will not work.

I guess they are setup different here. Some people with routers here have been contacted by comcast and told they will need to pay $5 for each machine. I only have a linux box hooked up to the modem so they can't tell.
