Alsaplayer not playing Streams mad_open() failed

Hi
My alsaplayer on the new amd64 box doesn't seem to be able to
accept an *.m3u file as imput if I put in the URL for the stream it works fine
ie
~$ alsaplayer http://128.125.204.54:2345/kusc96.mp3

and it takes *.mp3 files just fine but I get a "mad_open() failed" message if I input a *.m3u or *.pls file
here is the file I've been trying.

~$ cat kusc96.m3u
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:-1,kuscaudio96.mp3
http://128.125.204.54:2345/kuscaudio96.mp3

this works as input on my 32 bit machine with out problems.

I'm baffeled
Thanks

Jeff

**EDIT*** Problem Solved ! It turns out that what was hanging it up was the MS-eol ^M in the *.m3u file. Once I edited it out it all works fine!
**/EDIT***
