Question Alsaplayer strangeness

I'm fairly new to all this stuff, but I'm gradually getting there.

But Alsaplayer has me completely confused. I've downloaded and installed the thing OK, but the GUI doesn't seem to work:

If I type "alsaplayer" in a shell then nothing happens

If I type "alsaplayer song.mp3" then it plays the song

But I never see the fancy GUI that is shown on the alsaplayer website.

OK, I know this means I must be doing something stupid wrong, but I can't figure it out...
