Acrobat 7.0.5 crashes on x86_64 when printing
Hi Folks.
Got a problem with acrobat 7.0.5 on fedora core 4 64 bit. Tried both the rpm packaged by Adobe and one specific for my distro from dries repository (both packages are compiled for i386). Reproduceable always: start acroread, load a file, click file > print => CRASH ! I get no message on the console. Any help or hint to head in the right direction welcome.

Can you print the PDF file using lpr?
Open up a terminal, change directory to wherever the PDF is, and type "lpr nameOfFile.pdf", where nameOfFile.pdf is whatever it is called.
Have you tried opening up the PDF in another PDF viewer, such as Evince or KPDF? Can you print from these applications?
If you can print as above, then it is a problem with the RPM. Try installing using the self-extracting binary (.tar.gz) instead of the RPM. There should be installation instructions in the tarball.
I hope this helps

Yes I can print the pdfs or open them with an other application. Problem is exactly the same with the tar.gz version. Clicking on print with any pdf loaded leads to a crash (application exits with no message in console).
Note: the same rpms and tar.gz version work on an i386 linux install (fedora as well)

In that case, I would say it is a problem with running a 32 bit app on a 64 bit distro. Although x86_64 is supposedly backwards compatible, it can have problems.
Is there any reason not to use Evince or KPDF. I find both to be excellent PDF readers, with basically the same functionallity as Acrobat.

I run tons of other 32 bit apps (apache, php, firefox...) without any problem. In this case in fact, I suspect it is a problem with a libpath leading to 32 bit adobe calling a 64 bit lib. But since I don't get any message in the console, I don't event know where to start looking. Any clue to get a message ?

I personnaly use gpdf which I find not bad as well. Meanwhile my problem here is that I have to fill out and print pdf forms (official documents) and that, to my knowledge, only Adobe reader can do that.

never mind.... I upgraded my machine to fedora core 5 x86_64 today and it works... Probably something that was broken got repaired in the operation.
Thank you for your time anyway.
