I know that it said ondemand man, but it was just to show that it does not work.
But I would just try what you suggested.

Should I reinstall the package, do something in Terminal, or do the procedure again?

Now I think I know why it does not work. I have not "performance.ko" in lib/modules/2.6.26-1-686/kernel/drivers/cpufreq.
So I could not make "modprobe cpufreq_performance" in the wizard I was referring to in one of my speeches.

Why have not I the file and how do I get it?
Could it be the reason that it does not work when I follow the wizard?

These functionalities are usually built in the kernel so there might be not such .ko
