A quick questions about Debian

Is CPUFreq or any CPU-program installed by default in Debian 5.0?

And if it is, how do I remove it?

Define "by default" (I always do bare installs and then build on top)?

Anyway, to remove it would be sudo aptitude purge cpufreqd. You can see everything that is installed by doing dpkg --get-selections > ~/myselections.txt

apt-cache policy packagename will show if that package is installed.

You can search packages as well.. for future reference..

Search only installed packages
Code:
it-lenny:~# aptitude search ~i | grep cpufreq
i A libcpufreq0 - shared library to deal with the cpufreq Linux kernel feature
or search all packages
Code:
it-lenny:~# aptitude search cpufreq
p cpufreqd - fully configurable daemon for dynamic frequency and voltage scaling
p cpufrequtils - utilities to deal with the cpufreq Linux kernel feature
v gnome-cpufreq-applet -
p libcpufreq-dev - development files to deal with the cpufreq Linux kernel feature
i A libcpufreq0 - shared library to deal with the cpufreq Linux kernel feature
p xfce4-cpufreq-plugin - cpufreq information plugin for the Xfce4 panel
i = installed
A = Automatically installed by aptitude (dependency)
p = Package and configu files purged (package is not installed)
v = virtual package

The library that is shown as being installed, is a dependency for gnome-applets that is why it's on my system..

aptitude command line reference

Or you can just set the governor to "performance" which means it's always at max speed.
/etc/default/cpufreq (or something like this)

With this guide http://technowizah.com/2007/01/debia...anagement.html

I had set it to Performance. But the last to put a line into /etc/sysfs.conf, I can't, that the file does not exist? What should I do?

http://packages.debian.org/search?se...table&arch=any

looks like that file is a part of sysfsutils.. you could install that package to get the configuration file to appear..

aptitude install cpufrequtils
echo 'GOVERNOR="performance"' > /etc/default/cpufrequtils
reboot

Let the system decide

Report errors and bugs to cpufreq@lists.linux.org.uk, please.
analyzing CPU 0:
driver: powernow-k8
CPUs which need to switch frequency at the same time: 0 1
hardware limits: 800 MHz - 1.90 GHz
available frequency steps: 1.90 GHz, 1.80 GHz, 1.60 GHz, 800 MHz
available cpufreq governors: powersave, conservative, userspace, ondemand, performance
current policy: frequency should be within 800 MHz and 1.90 GHz.
The governor "ondemand" may decide which speed to use
