So nobody knows about internet radio for linux? I found a program called "rhythmbox," but it says it wants osssink or alsasink, gnomefssrc, volume, mad, and vorbis.

Where can I download these? I've already queried google on it.

mplayer plays videos with sound, it is just xine that's giving problems. I prefer using xine because it is the only media player that plays cds.

you will have to reinstall it with gui support. that's done by

./configure --enable-gui
make
make install

the best way of doing it is, without any doubt, following the mplayer documentation:
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/index.html

this is the gui part:
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/gui.html

EDIT: usually, using gui may slow everything down. I've got a lot of audio/video sync problems running mplayer with gui. To start mplayer with gui, type gmplayer instead of mplayer.

mplayer can play cd's without any problem, even using cddb. you should read docs....
