A decent package manager for SuSe

Please help me with this topic at least because since I installed Suse these dependencies are driving me in-sane....Now, I know SuSe hast yast, but yast is almost useless:does not solve dependency conflicts and only shows them, sometimes it doesn't install a package and doesn't say why(#rpm says that it is built for another arhitecture etc etc).so, I herad about apt4rpm and apt4suse, but they need a lot of things too, so any help would be apreciated...if these dependencies don't go, I'll give up linux in the end, and come back to, oh well, winXP....

YAST resolves dependencies. You just have to tick on the "check dependencies" option when installing a package. You can also look for apt4rpm and synaptic for Suse. Personally I think YAST is good enough.

i have not used SuSe a lot, but YaST seems to do a rather good job for the most part, but if you are unhappy with that you might want to try and configure YUM

http://linux.duke.edu/projects/yum/

read the FAQ and directions carefully. also if you paid for SuSe, you are intitled to X amount of months of support from Novell. you should be able to e-mail them directly or call them even depending on the support package you paid for.

if you downloaded the CD ISOs or got a copy from a friend there is still pleny of HOWTOs on the web and this site.

if one little bump is enough to make you quit linux, then linux might just not be for you. this is no differnt then when you first started learning windows. it was not easy to troubleshoot problems in windows when any one first starts, nor is it any diffent in any other OS.

Neap..either I am blind, either yast is useless...and I ain't blind.because yast does show you what a package needs(libs etc), but DOES NOT download them for you...10x, rpm can do that also...now the last time I tryed to update kdelibs to 3.4 70 packages needed correction...Now what??that's why i say I need a tutorial for apt4rpm and/or apt4suse.

lleb that's nice of you, but trust me, 70 packages isn't a "liitle bump", it's a large one....I am currently doing my best not to give up linux, and any good package manager would indeed help me a lot.10x about the link.i'll tell u if it workz.

Well, you must be blind then because there is an option to check dependencies and yast downloads and installs them automatically.
