*EASY* video playing?
hi there,
I (being the notorious linux newbie) just tried to play some videos on my shiny new gnome desktop. Needless to say, it didn't work. So I read about mplayer and that this is supposed to be THE video app to use. Well I installed it, entered 'mplayer filename.mpg" and all I got was about two screens full of error messages. thank you.
is this linux?
so is there a video player out there that I just install and play videos with? or is the simple task of playing videos yet another journey into linux land, where nothing works unless you spend a week full of research, googling and configuring textfiles (just to play a video)?
as you can see I am quite frustrated with this and would appreciate some positive feedback before I fade back into windows land, where everything you want is just a mouseclick away...
excuse the sarcasm please... any help IS in fact appreciated.
thanks,
sascha
