Windows/Linux samba question

I'm currently working on a new server project for my boss. He would like me to transfer all of the user accounts and passwords from our xp pro samba computer to a linux samba machine. I'm not sure where to look for documentation on this at this point. I can't seem to find anything that says it is or isn't possible. If it is possible, how do I do it? If it isn't possible, where is the documentation to back it up (if there is any).

Thanks in advance.

What is "XP Pro Samba"? Do you mean you are using an XP Professional machine as a file server?

Sorry, yes, I mean Windows XP pro setup as a file share service. I could have been a little clearer.

You will need to provide some more information. Such as how users authenticate on the network.
Do you use profiles? Does the XP pro server authenticate users to the network?

I'd highly recommend downloading the Samba 3 book which has examples for several samba servers.
www.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba3-ByExample.pdf. You may be able to base your samba server to one of the examples. A reference guide is also available as well there. These books are also available from a samba-doc package from your Linux distro. You may already have it.

The Windows XP box uses it's local authentication (everything is stored in the SAM hive) and I need to transfer those accounts into my ldap server with passwords. We plan on shutting off the old XP box since it will no longer be in production.
