I am not able to scan using SMB to view shares with Gnomba, I am able to view shares by giving the LAN IP range. Also, I am able to view the workgroup.

In windows XP, I can see the workgroup and the LInux box but cannot connect to view the shares.

Following is the smb.conf:

not sure about the gnomba thing (didn't even know it existed), but did you add the user to the system and add them to samba with smbpasswd -a _username_?

yes, after the smb.conf was changed, I did a smbpasswd -a username for the windows XP user. They also have a user login on the linux box.
