Vsftpd permissions

I created a local user on my system, with the directory /var/www/****.net

So I ftp with my username and password for that user, and I upload a file, but it has wonky permissions.

I go onto the web to the website, and it gives me a "Forbidden" error.

So I chmod the file 777 and it works fine.

I don't want to have to do this for every file, and I'm sure doing that is very dangerous.

Is there a solution to this?

I'm using vsftpd

What were the original permissions? 755 on all should be safe and work.

chmod -R 755 /var/www/****.net

This will change the permissions on the directory and all files and directories under it. If you have anything that you do not want readable by the public then you need to make sure to go back in and change the permissions on the particular files.
