syslog message redirect

Greetings-
After review of the following procedures, I seem to be getting syslog messages from my ASA to an instance of Centos. But they are not going into the right file:-( Here is what I *tried* to follow:
http://www.linuxhomenetworking.com/w...iguration_File
Here is what I have in /etc/syslog.conf

# Save ASA messages to /var/log/ASA
local.* /var/log/ASA/firewall.log

I am getting the syslog messages, but they seem to be going into the /var/log/messages file.
This is my first time posting here. Any advice on presenting my questions better is also appreciated.

Hi there,

Welcome to LQ!!!

As I can understand you want the ASA firewall log to be created on your CentOS system. Basically you are trying to make your CentOS server syslog server. If that is the case I would like to know if you have configured your CentOS server as mentioned in the link under the section: Configuring the Linux Syslog Server

As you mentioned it is getting updated in /var/log/messages instead of the log file you create so it appears to be configuration issue on ASA end. It appears that you have instructed ASA to update the logs under /var/log/messages.

Please refer to the following documentation and check if you have configured your ASA correctly: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/...805a2e04.shtml

I hope this helps.
