shared printer error message

here is the setup:
Laptop is HP on 192.168.0.4 running Vista Home Premium
Desktop on 192.168.0.6 running debian sid with cups and samba
router is Dlink on 192.168.0.1 (default)

Printing works perfectly when printing from the desiktop
Laptop sees the printer and also prints. however, the following error msg appear
in the printer msg popup screen
Access denied, unable to connect

Since the printer prints this is perplexing,,,

smb.conf

If I am reading this correctly, your Vista client is trying to print to a printer on a Debian system. It sounds like you need to share this printer out by editing smb.conf (/etc/samba), or using one of the nice tools Debian probably has to do this for you. I prefer dealing with smb.conf myself.

confusion

I am not sure what you mean about this didn't happen with XP. Do you mean that your XP system saw the printer that was attached to your Debian system?

If it did, I would bet /etc/samba/smb.conf is already configured to share out your printer, and you are having some kind of configuration issue with Vista.

I am referring to the error msg....the printer still prints from Vista to the debian printer....just that the msg is annoying and was not there when I used the XP laptop with was replaced with a newer Vista Home Premium laptop....
