Server will not boot when no monitor attached
I have a machine I have been using for some time as a server running headless fedora 17. I recently reinstalled it to fedora 20. I changed the "default.target" to point to "multi-user.target" to have it boot without X. It works fine as long as there is a monitor attached. When I remove it and try to reboot, the machine never responds. I cannot see anything since there is no monitor attached. i am not able to ping or ssh into the box. When I attach a monitor when it seems to be in this "hung" state, I see nothing. The monitor goes into sleep mode. I have looked through /var/log/messages and nothing stood out to me.
Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Any suggestions how to go about researching/solving this?
