Remote access to X11 - What do i need in my xorg.conf

I'm trying to setup remote access to X server on a headless machine. At present I can't start X because there is no monitor attached. Do i need to start X on the server? If so is there a xorg.conf setup I can use that will avoid the need for a monitor.

Regards,

You are probably looking for something like tightvnc:

But is it absolutely necessary to get a graphical display on the server?
