Problem with upgrade from feisty to Gutsy in Ubuntu 7.10

Hi,

I upgraded to gusty from feisty and experiencing few problems.I am using Ubuntu 7.10, Most of my pop-up applications are not coming up, e.g when i press ALT + F2 the run window pop appears and it just hangs and this happens for all the pop applications even with the evolution i.e when i click on save the pop window hangs and i have to restart the comp. When i click on the Update ICON which says that there a 883 updates available it just keeps loading and bring nothing on the pop-up windows . I ran apt-get update and removed all unecessary pacakges which was asked when i ran the command apt-get install..but still no luck.

Please let me know how can this be fixed or is there a way to degrade this back to feisty.
