ubuntustudio feisty to gutsy upgrade theme questions
I've upgraded UbuntuStudio Feisty to the Gutsy version. I've googled the changes in its UbuntuStudio theme appearance and I understand it's been changed. I quite like the new window, icons and panel appearance, but prefer the Feisty bootsplash, login screens/sounds etc. I have the old version sitting in a folder on my desktop (from gnome-look.org), but the login window manager in Gutsy doesn't recognise any of the files in it.
How do I download and install the old theme's logo, usplash, GDM, and Gnome-splash?
Any ideas, links or suggestions appreciated. Thanks.
I have solved the login screen issue by downloading the gdm file from gnome-look.org, then installing it by clicking on the downloaded file in /tmp when prompted by the login window manager. Still looking for a way to install Feisty's usplash, logo and gnome splash.
I've solved all my issues, and for those who stumble across this thread, here's how I did it.
To change usplash, download Startup Manager through Synaptic, or open a terminal and type
sudo apt-get install gnome-startup-manager
Startup Manager will appear in System--Administration--Startup Manager.
Go to gnome-look.org and search for usplash themes, you'll find UbuntuStudio's there. Download it to your desktop, right click, 'extract here', then click on the extracted file when prompted by the 'manage usplash themes' window in Startup Manager.
To change login window and gnome-splash, go to gnome-look.org, search for gdm themes, follow the procedure as for usplash above, except use the Login Window manager 'look' tab. System--Administration--Login Window.
To change the background colour of gnome-splash, open a terminal and type
sudo gedit /etc/gdm/PreSession/Default
then change background colour #dab082 to #000000 for black. Save.
