I'm assuming the receiving domain exists and isn't blacklisted by your relay server.

It looks like you're seeing the problem described here. MS Exchange does not permit trailing '.' (period) or ' ' (space) characters after the host name. Are you able to send directly to determine whether it is an issue with mail.messaging.microsoft.com?

Hi,

Take a look at www.mxtoolbox.com. There are a number of reasons why you might be getting blacklisted. Some of which you will have little or no direct control over.

If you run the blacklist search for your server on the above site, you will be able to find out what lists you are on and why.

Different domains will use different rules for allowing or blocking mail. Some will even block IP ranges based on the volume of spam. In other words, if your service provider/hosting company has infected sites, this can affect your own servers rating.

Hi,

You might not have configured the domain name in sendmail correctly. It looks like the remote servers are not resolving you domain.

I'm not 100% sure how to set this in sendmail as I use Postfix.

Also, if you have a dedicated IP address, have your ISP add a reverse DNS entry for the IP pointing back to your domain.

Finally, it can take up to 48 hours to have your server removed from a blacklist. I'd concentrate on following the instructions on MXToolBox and getting that sorted ASAP

It says you're not allowed to relay the mail. Relaying is sending mail to a different different domain than the one you're connected to. In your case it looks like you're connected to google.com and trying to send mail to example.com. In this case you should be sending mail to a user @google.com
