password login error


hi


im using these command to assign password to user
#useradd technology -p technology
#su - technology
[sanjay@localhost ~]$ su - technology
Password:
su: incorrect password


#cat /etc/passwd
technology:x:527:527::/home/technology:/bin/bash
#cat /etc/shadow
technology:technology:15215:0:99999:7:::

who will give password after adding user?
before posting use your mind and get knowledge about adding user.you are doing silly mistake

you had not given password
#passwd technology
enter password

@cnt ... -p option is used to supply password with the useradd command. Check the man

@arun5002 ... While -p is used to give the password .. It need an encrypted password. In the above example, the system will try to decrypt technology and login the user, which is not what we want. Use the password command instead.

FYI: the cmd is 'passwd' not 'password'.
As above, the -p option in useradd requires the passwd to already be encrypted; IOW it puts exactly what you specify into the shadow file, as you saw above.
There's an interesting discussion here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7...a-shell-script about the --stdin option to the passwd cmd.
