Hello guys, I am very new to Linux and we were asked to create an active directory using opensuse 13.2. These will be done on virtualbox. The Linux server will act as the active domain controller to which we can put users and passwords that the clients can use to login to their Windows desktop. The Linux server will also be the dhcp server. I have read that samba can be used for active directory but I don't know how to use it yet. Can you please help me or teach me. My other concern is that what network interface will i use? will it be nat or bridge adapter? the windows computer must be able to connect to the internet. thanks for those who will be responding.
We are here to help. But you will have to make an effort to install and learn Samba on your own first. If and when you have issues, please bring a specific question by and it will likely be answered.
Google turned up many, many, many how-to's, beginners guides, pdf's, and books. You should try that route first.

So since you found this site with an internet search, you should have also tried putting "how to configure samba as an active directory server" in first, and reading the Samba documentation: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Set...ain_Controller
Active Directory is a Microsoft product. LDAP is the name for the general idea that you are talking about. But yes, if you want to use Linux 389 server on Opensuse to authenticate users and set up home directories, then 389 server will work.

Right...setting this up is something TECHNICAL. If this is your job, then it's up to you to LEARN THIS and get it done. Again, we are happy to help you if you're stuck, but we aren't going to want to/be able to do your job for you.
