Open Source Instant Messaging Client like Gtalk

Hey Fellas,

I am looking for a IM client which will behave like a GTALK client, e.g. new emails will directly be notified with only Chat client is running and I dont need to run the Email client

Would you please advise if any such tool readily available or if not what other hack I need to perform?

Thanks
Manya

Pidgin is free open source software that supports GTalk (and a dozen other IM protocols)

I think what the OP wants is an email notifier. If you don't need the chat features you can check http://www.kbiff.org/
I never used the program, just a quick search returned it as result.

If is that what you want you should look for an "email notifier".
