Smile what is linux instant messaging server software?im client software?


Hi, what is a linux instant messaging server, my purpose is i want to setup a linux server which have a function of instant messaging server, like Lotus Notes having a Instant messaging built-in software to let's all Lan user communication. like linux webserver famous is apache, than instant messaging server is? and how to configure it, also how to setup at client side include windows OS.

Do you have any restrictions/requirements or just any messaging server will do? I've run a jabber server here (not many users though) and had no problems with it. There are plenty of jabber server choices here.
