NFS permissions

Hello,

I have an NFS server running at home. This is great to have all the files centralized.

My question is on a partition of my NFS server that I want to share with everyone. We put photos and documents that everyone in the family has access. How can I give read-write access to everyone, on every file from this partition???

I will explain more in details. If I create a directory on this partition, the uid/gid will be associated with me. I want to ensure that everyone can read and write to every files and folders on this partition.

One last point that might help. Everyone is part of the same group.

Thank you in advance.
Cheers

If the others bits is set on the directory (rwx) all users will have full access. Look at the permissions for the /tmp directory. Setting the sticky bit will protect files from being deleted by non-owner users. You might want to -bind mount the directory elsewhere with the noexec, nosuid, nodev options. You need rbind the directories anyway for NFS4. The directories shared should be under the nfs root directories.

You could also use group permissions. Think of a mounted NFS share as a local directory, and use permissions as you would normally. The exception is due to root squash.
