Need a rack, which one? (for regular newbies and all pc)
Hi guys,
Non regular server, but anyhow. I have a tower:
high 440mm x 530mm length x width 260mm (+usb + cables)
that I would like to isolate from sound, dust, and all.
It holds the nfs. The sound is terrible, altghouh I rather buy a rack than a tower low noise. The rack will make even less noise I guess.
Is there any advices?
I saw that the compaq rack are quite flexible.
If you have any model in mind, please give references cuz it can be complicated field.
Why would you want a rack for ONE machine? pointless. They aren't meant to do anything at all to affect acoustics, and most have grills for ventilation which will let sound right through. Buy a better PSU and fan instead.

in that lounge the fan is getting me crazy. I had a silent server before, with high tech noise cancelling but still it was making noise.
I am thinking, in case there is no one in the house, for few days, the power supply of the pc can also burn, then in this case the rack will protect from fire. no?
There are some racks that have foam padding and such. I imagine that would help with noise reduction. But those racks typically have a bunch of fans in the back to help with heat evacuation. Racks are not intended to protect from fire or reduce noise. If you do find speciality racks for that purpose I imagine you will pay quite the premium. What you need is larger fans that require lower rpms to move the same ammount of air. Alternatively you could go the heatpipe or liquid cooling route. My guess is you will have an easier time and end up spending less money investing in a silent powersupply and passive cooling to reduce the noise.
Another cheap alternative is to relocate the machine to a closet where you won't hear the noise.
