LVM switch from RH9 to Ubuntu 8.04

Hello Folks.

I have a old as dirt RH9 server box with a big drive array (external scsi) that I am wanting to physically move and connect to my newer IBM 2U server running Ubuntu Server 8.04 and finally put the RH9 box to rest.

I have this drive array set up using LVM on the RH9 box currently, and was wanting to ask before I do anything, what must I do to get it to work under ubuntu?

I would like to avoid having to nuke it, as I have a bunch of data on there, and don't really have anywhere to offload it right now. I have my super-important stuff backed up on tape, so I'm covered there.

Something tells me this is going to turn into a nightmare, so I want to check with the world before I start pulling cables and moving stuff.

Thanks.

If this is not your boot disks you can probably make the system recognize it by booting up then using vgscan and vgimport to bring the LVM disks in.

If it is your boot disks you might be able to accomplish it by booting the install/rescue/live CD and trying to bring it up using the same vg commands. However, at that point you'd have to figure out how to replace the original OS install with the new OS without overwriting what you're interested in preserving.
