Red face how to DNS,DHCP


hellow frnds

i am new to fedora and i have just installed fedoraCore 8.
but i dont have /etc/dhcpd.conf and /var/named or /etc/named.conf fiels to config my server as DNS and DHCP

so what should i do to install these services.
how can i install from my fedoracore8 DVD plz help.

i appriciate your help very much.

well obviously there's a lot more to installing them than a couple of config files...

yum install bind

and

yum install dhcp

will get them installed, unless i've remembered the pacakge names wrong.

...amongst other things, you seem to be assuming that Bind is the only way of getting a local Domain Name Service and DHPCD is the only way of getting DHCP.

For some sites, these will be the most apropriate solutions, but for smaller sites and SoHo applications, it is probably better to use something simpler to configure. You might want to have a look at Dnsmasq (or, say, maradns and djbdns) depending on what fedora has in its repos.

Good advice, salasi. Especially, dnsmasq -- it's used by SmoothWall Express & IPCop (dedicated firewall distros).
