Question How can I setup a server (LAMP)?

Hello,

I bought a new server, it seems that the server came with standard services such as:

Fedora
Sendmail
Apache Web Server
PERL
Procmail
POP3
MySQL
BASH
PHP
IMAP

That I did not know, so I thought I would get the server clean.

So I installed Apache 2.0.58

Then I installed PHP 4.4

Then I tried to install MYsql, ran into conflict with the old mysql, so removed the old one.

Then the install was successful, but the mysql server was not up and would give me an error when connection to outside mysql clients:

"Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client"

Tried again and again same problem would happen.

Then I found this control panel called DigiPanel, so I said hay its free let's give it a try.

I installed it, everything works fine (I assume).

Problem is that the HTTPD service won't start, and no specific message and the logs are no where to be found.

I can access the server's control panel but not the actual site.

I need to access the server via 1 and only 1 subdomain (not domain name), dns stuff is all setup.

My question, is is possible to "format" the entire system without messing with the operating system?

Any suggestions I will accept

Thanks,

What? I thought you wanted a LAMP setup, which it sounds like you already had in the first place. Why not focus on getting that working?
