I have just changed my local domain name, and added 'local.net' to end of it, as it was not a FQDN.
i did this because a set up a local forwarding dns server, as i couldnt ping or reach my server by name, unless i added the entry to the hosts file.
So i changed my local network card settings, changed my dhcp server and my dns server, all to reflect osirus.local.net and, when I ping my server now, without the hosts file entry, i get server1.osirus.local.net, as i should.
however, i used to be able to just go to server1 and it would display my webpage, how ever, when i now go to it, I get a Server error 500, internal server error. Yet if point my browser to the ip address, page display's fine, so im thinking DNS...
yet, i can reach server1:10000 for webmin fine.
This is all for an internal network only, so i dont have to worry about external dns zones and things like that, but could anyone possibly point me in a direction to cause of this apache problem?
Hello,
It sounds like you may not be hitting the server at this point. Just to clarify, when you're now entering the name of the server in your browser, are you entering server1.osirus.local.net?
server1.osirus.local.net takes me to www.local.net, and when i ping server1, it comes back with server1.osirus.local.net, but with www.local.net's ip address. I believe my dns is screwed, so please see dns thread here...
Hello,
Sorry for the delay. Just checked out the DNS thread you linked to and it looks like you got that issue resolved. Did it resolve this one as well?
