FTP Problem faced by Clients In Local Network

Dear All,

A very Happy new year 2009 to all of you !

Need guidance in resolving a typical problem:-

I am using squid proxy on CentOS 4.7 on a network having clients with differnt OS like windows,Mac, linux etc. Everything seems to be working fine except one problem -- the clients can not download anything from the Internet through ftp protocol.

I read somewhere that squid is an http proxy and thus can not provide ftp proxy service. We need to do something with iptables.
I wish to intimate that NO iptables script is running on my server.

Can some one suggest solution to this problem ( iptables or any other ) ?

Thanking In Advance

Have you checked the squid proxy documentation? You can see if you have iptables on your system:

# which iptables
> man iptables

iptables is installed in the system but service is off when the system boots.

Actually,

iptables -L

as root shows if any firewall is in effect.
Start by trying to ftp a file off the net from the server cmd line.
