Does installing update packages on RHEL and Centos will affecting running services?

Hi to All Linux Users,

I have a question regarding installing the latest updates packages on RHEL and Centos,If I install the latest packages will it affect the active running services or applications like HTTP,Oracle Database and EBS Applications?

because we all know that during the setup of this Critical Services and Application there is a requirement for needed Packages with Specific Versions(ex.gcc-4.1.2-14.el5.x86_64) to successfully install the software. Then when the Application is running and Packages update comes with the latest Version example gcc-4.1.3-14.el5.x86_64 is there a possibility that the active running Application will be affected of the Package update installation?

IIRC, patches to running services automatically call the necessary "restart" init script to restart the service. This usually doesn't disrupt active connections but allows new ones to use the updates software.

With any software change there is a risk that there will be unintended side-effects that could break existing applications. This is why most enterprises have a test environment in which patches are thoroughly vetted before being deployed to production systems.
