DNS server question

Good evening.

I've setup a few DNS servers using FC7.
I normally just go like this:
yum install -y bind* caching-nameserver compat-libstdc*

All of the DNS servers would have a domain associated with them, such as crunkjooce.com or something.

My question is this: can you make a DNS server without having a domain? As in just a DNS server for my internal network to query, having nothing to do with a website or fully qualified domain names?

Thanks!

That's what a basic caching nameserver is. As soon as you are directly resolving a fqdn, you're authoritative for that domain, caching (or probably more correctly recursive) for others.
