DansGuardian lag problem

Hi, I've installed DansGuardian and Squid on Debian Lenny, everything is working fine but... it's slow. For example, when I go to slashdot.org, DG seems to wait about 10 seconds and then starts downloading the page (Firefox says waiting for slashdot.org, and I'm looking at the logs and there's no activity).

I also have blacklisted some sites (chat, socialnet, music, porn, etc) from Shalla's blacklist (http://www.shallalist.de/). I don't think my machine is the problem, it's a Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00GHz with 2GB RAM and running only DG, Squid and dnsmasq and no additional services (no X also).

I'm the only one using the proxy (configured for localhost access only).

Any help would be appreciated.

I also experienced this, and I believe it has to do with squid caching the pages. I'm not certain though. You may try turning off the caching. I simply switched to using tinyproxy and firehol. It worked pretty well for me. I was only interested in the filtering aspect and not the page cache.

Thank you bcwagne, I will try again with the cache option turned off. Unfortunately this is a huge drawback for me as caching would be nice for my slow internet connection but I'm interested mostly in the filtering too.

The only information I got on google was from some guy which had the same problem, he said that DG has problems with sites that use javascript. Too bad.. :/

Well, the final configuration was: Squid + DansGuardian + Adzapper. Squid is only configured as a proxy and doesn't cache anything, but DG still has the same problems... well, I don't care anymore.
