Crashing problem/ Lag

Hi, i am newer to linux, i am running slackware 10.1 on kernel 2.11.8 . i this is my first time actually configuring my own kernel, and i thought i had everything running. sound, NTFS, radeon driver (after 2 weeks! ) and everything else seemed fine. but lately i have noticed when i am doing file transfers, or anything else slightly high in cpu usage. the mouse will lag like hell and i can barley move it. and sometimes the system will pause. i thought nothing of this untill i tried playing games. Quake 3 i can play for 5 minutes, then the system locks up. in Americas Army, all i can do is use the menu, it will freeze when loading the actual game. and in Enemy Territory the game freeses after i slecet a profile. i figured this is related to modules. i think something is very wrong. when i type "lsmod" all i get is this?

Module Size Used by
fglrx 239804 7
via_agp 8000 1
snd_emu10k1 96132 0
snd_rawmidi 21024 1 snd_emu10k1
snd_util_mem 3840 1 snd_emu10k1
snd_hwdep 8032 1 snd_emu10k1
agpgart 29488 2 fglrx,via_agp

if i am correct, there should be more, right? that seems way to low.

or is my problem related to something else

my system is
Amd athlon 1800+
Radeon 9700 pro
Sound blaster audigy gamer
MSI kt4v with VIA chipset
